The Florida Everglades
Congratulations! If you are visiting this website, it means that you are about to become a part of an elite, small group of travelers who experience the real Florida. Most visitors to Florida attend Disney World, the beach, or a golf course. Less than five percent of visitors to the sunshine state venture into the wilderness to get a taste of what Florida is really all about. Even fewer do so by way of one of Florida’s many springs, rivers, or lakes. 
 
The Florida Everglades, also known as the River of Grass, is a unique ecosystem. The is no other place like it on Earth. Many people share the misconception that “The Everglades” is Everglades National Park, but the park only protects about 20% of the total area that make up the River of Grass. The Everglades is vast, stretching from the headwaters of the Kissimmee River all the way to Florida Bay and to the Gulf on the west side and the Atlantic to the east. It is also exponentially diverse, bragging nine unique habitats, more than 40 mammal species, over 360 species of birds, and numerous other species of reptile, amphibian, and insect. 47 native orchid species occur across the Everglades, in addition to about 750 other kinds of native seed-bearing plants.
